How To Create Your Winning Book Writing Strategy
The three options to get your book written – you don’t necessarily need to write it yourself
Hello, this is Rachel Henke, bestselling author of Living Fearlessly, and founder of Become a Published Author, Coaching and Ghostwriting Programmes.
Today I’ve got a short video for you, on how to choose your winning book writing strategy or book plan.
So, once you’re clear on which book you’re writing and which book you want to publish, it’s time to decide how it will be written, and who is gonna write it for you, because there are three options, which I cover in my complimentary Become a Published Author Starter Kit, which you can download below.
So, the way I see it is you’ve got the DIY option; you can go it alone and use the tips in the kit. I do recommend if you go for this option, that it be because you’re highly self-motivated, you’re the type of person who does sit down and get on with things.
Perhaps, you’re less plagued by self-doubt than some people, which is the number one reason people don’t complete their book, which I also cover in the starter kit. I recommend that you have a writing partner or buddy, to ready your chapters as you write them, and I include more criteria on that, on how to choose that person, in the kit.
The second option is coaching. Now coaching is a wonderful option for achieving anything, and knowing that you are doing it yourself, so you’re writing your own book, but you have someone with expertise has got your back every step of the way, and that’s fantastic.
Ideally you’ll choose a coach who has expertise; specialised knowledge about writing and publishing books, but also, I would say choose someone who has transformative coaching expertise, because writing and completing a book is a mind game.
All the how-to’s in the world won’t get you there, if you don’t understand what’s going on with your kind of self-sabotage, self-doubt habits. So, a combination of that is wonderful, of course there is an investment for coaching, so you need to factor in, what would be your return on investment.
Usually, when you’ve got a business or you’re launching a business, it’s a no-brainer. Because, how many clients do you need to cover your investment and get your return on investment, which will pay you over and over and over again, as your book is out there promoting your business?
How many speaking opportunities do you need? How many contracts? it just depends what your business model is.
How do you make money in your business, how will you make money through the book? So, that’s something to look at and I cover more details of that in the kit and in my private consultations.
The third option is ghostwriting, which is a wonderful option for people who don’t have the time or don’t want to make the time, don’t have the skill, or just simple don’t have the desire to write their own book, but they want a book. They want all the bells and whistles and wonderful benefits that come with having a book, to position their project or business.
If that’s you, the thing to look out for is to hire a professional ghostwriter, somebody who does this professionally, because there are a lot of people who sell that kind of service, who’ve never written a book, but just want to make some extra money part-time, and they think they might be a good writer. Which is OK, but obviously not great for you, because your reputation and credibility are at stake.
Your name is on the book. There is a significant investment for ghostwriting, rightly so, because it requires effort, expertise and time. This option is for you, if you are able to get on with your revenue producing activities, and you then want to know that there’s a professional writer in the background, collaborating with you to write your book.
